HoneyCare Sizing Guide: How to Find the Perfect Fit for Your Dog

HoneyCare Sizing Guide: How to Find the Perfect Fit for Your Dog

A male dog wrap is only as effective as its fit. If it’s too loose, you’ll deal with leaks; if it’s too tight, your dog will be uncomfortable and prone to skin irritation.

At HoneyCare, we’ve designed our wraps to be highly adjustable, but starting with the right size is essential. Follow this simple guide to ensure your dog stays dry and happy.

1. How to Measure Your Dog in 3 Simple Steps

To get an accurate measurement, you will need a flexible measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler).

Step 1: Locate the "Pee Zone"

For male dogs, the wrap needs to cover the entire midsection where they urinate. You should measure around the narrowest part of the waist, right in front of the back legs.

Step 2: The "Stand Up" Rule

Always measure your dog while they are standing on all four paws. If your dog is sitting or lying down, their waist expands, and the measurement will be inaccurate.2

Step 3: The "Two-Finger" Buffer

Wrap the tape snugly but not tight. Once you have the number, ensure you can fit two fingers between the tape and your dog's fur. This ensures they can breathe and move comfortably.

2. HoneyCare Official Size Chart (Quick Reference)

Size Waist Measurement (Inches) Waist Measurement (cm) Typical Breeds (Example)
XS 6" – 13" 15 – 33 cm Toy Poodle, Chihuahua, Pomeranian
S 12" – 19" 30 – 48 cm Jack Russell, Cavalier King Charles
M 18" – 25" 45 – 63 cm Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, Frenchie
L 25" – 32" 63 – 80 cm Golden Retriever, Lab, Boxer
XL 32" – 38" 80 – 96 cm Great Dane, Mastiff, Saint Bernard

Note: Breed examples are for reference only. Always measure your dog, as weight and fur thickness can vary significantly!

3. When to Size Up or Size Down?

Sometimes your dog falls right between two sizes (e.g., a 19-inch waist). Here is what HoneyCare experts recommend:

  • Size UP if: Your dog has very thick fur, is a senior dog with a sensitive stomach, or if you plan to add an extra booster pad for heavy nighttime leaking.

  • Size DOWN if: Your dog is very active, has short fur, or has a very slim "tucked" waist (like a Greyhound).

4. How to Tell if the Fit is Correct (The 4-Point Check)

Once you put the HoneyCare wrap on, check these four things:

  1. Centered: Is the absorbent pad centered over the male anatomy?

  2. Overlap: Does the hook-and-loop (Velcro) tab overlap the base at least 1-2 inches?

  3. Gap Check: Are there gaps around the edges? (If yes, it’s too big).

  4. Movement: Can your dog walk, sit, and lie down without the wrap shifting or cutting into his skin?

FAQ: Sizing & Fit

Q: My dog is a puppy. Should I buy a larger size for him to grow into?

A: No. A wrap that is too large will leak immediately. We recommend buying the size that fits him now. HoneyCare wraps are affordable enough to upgrade as he grows!

Q: Why does the wrap keep sliding off my dog?

A: This usually happens if the dog has a very "tapered" body (like a Whippet) or if the wrap is too loose. Try moving the wrap slightly further back toward the hind legs or choosing one size smaller for a tighter grip.
